Navigating Hospital and Medical Staff Grievances: Legal, Regulatory, and Resolution Strategies

Hospital and medical staff grievances present unique operational, regulatory, and legal challenges that require a coordinated and consistent approach. This session will explore best practices for addressing and resolving grievances through the lens of hospital compliance, medical staff governance, and legal risk management. Panelists will discuss CMS Conditions of Participation, accreditation expectations, medical staff bylaws and fair process considerations, and key legal principles that influence grievance review and resolution. Attendees will gain practical strategies for conducting thorough investigations, maintaining appropriate documentation, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting fair and defensible outcomes. Through a multidisciplinary perspective, this session will provide a framework for navigating complex grievances while supporting organizational integrity, physician engagement, accreditation readiness, and optimal resolution.

CSHRM is excited to partner with Angela Peachy to present this timely topic.  Angela Peachy is the Corporate Director of Risk Management for the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation. She has more than 20 years of healthcare experience in hospital operations, clinical care, and risk management. Angela currently serves as President of the California Association of Patient Relations, Vice President of the Hawaii Association of Healthcare Risk Management, and is a Past President of the Southern California Association of Healthcare Risk Management. She is also actively involved with the American Society for Health Care Risk Management (ASHRM), serving on the National ASHRM Education Committee, where she contributes to the development and advancement of healthcare risk management education and professional practice. Angela has also been a speaker at the annual CSHRM Napa Conference, and we are excited to partner with her for this timely webinar.

CSHRM is an approved CEU Provider (#4506) with the CA Board of Registered Nursing 1 contact hours will be awarded for this program.
